South Africa’s journey towards harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) is gaining momentum, but the global AI landscape is evolving just as quickly. With the recent introduction of the U.S. AI Civil Rights Act, a new wave of AI governance is emerging, offering valuable lessons for South Africa’s own policy evolution. As AI reshapes industries and societies, it’s crucial that our policies grow with it—ensuring fairness, transparency, and protection of civil rights.

In our first report, we explore how South Africa can build on the lessons from international law – particularly the U.S. bill – to enhance its AI governance and strengthen protections for its citizens.
